Ranjit Bajaj from Roadies Season 1

Roadies Season 1 was an expirement between Raghu and Mtv. They hardly had any core plans to take the show at this levels. Today we have Ranjit Bajaj from Roadies Season 1. We had a telephonic interview with him . Here comes my interview with Ranjit Bajaj from Roadies Season 1.

On asking Ranjit Bajaj about his experience with Roadies journey, he says It was the great experience. He hardly had any idea of what to expect as it was the first reality show of India. He got an opportunity to ride bike and travel from Chennai to Chail with other co-contestants and it was really great experience. He didn’t even have any preparation for interview of Roadies. As it was first reality show ever so he didn’t know what to do. In the interview round they didn’t even have any panel or judges to face. There was just camera in front of the contestant. They were asked questions and they had to perform in front of camera. He didn’t have to face interview panel like we find today. That’s why the contestants you find in Roadies season 1 are natural and without any makeup.

Ranjit feel the tasks during the journey were superb and he loved it. Each and every contestant of their season gave 100% to their tasks. Further he adds that some of the unique tasks we found were only in season 1 like dressing themself as comic characters, eating unlimited icecream, playing truthy n dare and getting waxed etc have never happened in any other season. And it was real life fun for him . He didn’t just feel it like the task but they were really having fun while doing these tasks. Further comparing the tasks of his season to present day task, Ranjit says situation is quite different now. Today Roadies are living in Royal hotels and they do lot of make ups . In their season they were living in normal hotels. They were not supposed to eat in hotels they stayed. Each day they were given Rs 500 and they had to manage entire day’s food in that Rs 500.

Ranjit says that Roadies gave him some life time relations like Rannvijay. He is like his brother now. Rannvijay was also initially the co-owner of Ranjit Bajaj owned Football club (Punjab FC). Further to our surprise he adds that Rannvijay’s father, his uncle and his Grandfather were all trained in Ranjit owned football academy i.e Punjab FC. He is also in constant touch with Mini, another roadie from season 1 who was in Mumbai since last few years but now shifted to Chandigarh.

On asking about voteouts, Ranjit says that he find voteouts as a unique concept and fair enough. He says that in reality shows we find that contestants are voted by public. In such cases there is a chance of partialism and also one doesn’t get fair picture about voting. Whereas in Roadies contestants gives fair votings through voteouts, this is really fair and without partialism.

It has been 17 years since Roadies season 1 came, but Ranjit haven’t yet stopped watching Roadies. He specially watches Roadies auditions where Rannvijay his friend-like brother plays a lead role. Some of the members from Roadies team i.e Anusha Dandekar, Nikhil Chinappa, and Vikrant Bhardwaj are now his friends. So at times when there is an audition in chandigarh, he visits the venue and meet his friends and Rannvijay.

Ranjit feels Roadies was a great learning experience for him. Before Roadies he wasn’t so good at biking. Roadies made him learn to ride bike on tough roads, mountains etc. Infact Roadies was the first time that he rode bike for consistent 10 kms without any break. He covered 4410 kms in Roadies journey, this was really first time for him. It also gave him an opportunity to test himself against best of India. Moreover it gave him an opportunity to live on roads, mountains, camping out with friends etc and this memories will remain forever. Ranjit’s favorite roadie is Rannvijay.

Ranjit never wanted to go for films, acting, tv serials etc. They were never his cup of tea. So after Roadies he joined his armed forces academy. Ranjit owns armed forces academy. It provide training and coaching to those who have cleared SSB. He already owned cricked club. Six years back he took over Minerva Punjab FC which is now named as Punjab Fc. Its one of the leading football clubs of India. Last year they have won every title i.e under 13 , under 18 and premier national championships. Ranjit Bajaj loves adventures. He is also into sky-diving, scooba-diving, mountaineering etc. He has been upto 7700 mts height in mountaineering. Adding to his success and passion of sports, he is Limca book of record holder as well as Asia book of record holder for swimming at highest altitude right under the peak of Mt. Everst. He is also animal lover. He has dog shelter and animal shelter, they take care of about 70 dogs who are either handicapped or too old or too ill. He also owns a wild life NGO who takes care of wild animals.

On asking to describe each roadie of his season in few words, he has to say:

  1. Rannvijay Singha : Don-the Donny-My brother
  2. Iqnoor Bains: Studious
  3. Mini Goel : Best Friend
  4. Kriti Malhotra: Artistic
  5. Love Baroniya: Wrong person in the right place
  6. Tony Kardodia: Wild Man
  7. Divya Shukla: Mysterious
  8. Natasha Rodrigues: Real Roadie
  9. Natasha Gulati: Anything man can do, she can do better.

He advises aspiring youth who wants to be a Roadie that be yourself, if one tries to be somebody who was already on the show, they won’t select you. So he says never copy any previous season Roadie. He further adds hat one needs to be in his original way. Selectors are looking for something unique and original.

Ranjit feels great that Roadies was started as an expirement by Raghu and Rajeev and now its followed in the same spirit by Vikrant of Colesceum-India. He thinks youth of new India has grown up by watching Roadies. Whats common between the previous generation and this generation is one reality show i.e Roadies.
